Haugan is a small town located in Mineral County, Montana. Haugan is situated 90 miles West of Missoula on I-90 at the Haugan Exit #16. Haugan was named for H. G. Haugan, land commissioner of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway. Haugan was established & maintained as a pusher station for trains ascending the Rocky Mountains. Haugan is surrounded by the Lolo National Forest. Haugan is the site of Savenac Nursery Historic District where a large federal forest nursery is located.
